Bamboo Flattening Machine is a technologically advanced tool designed for the processing of raw bamboo into engineered components for use in high-value building and furniture products. Bamboo flattened by the machine can also be turned into non-woven textiles, filters, and school chairs. Its benefits include eco-friendliness, sustainability, and high output per unit of bamboo. Further, the machine also produces components that can be used in the production of bamboo biofuel and plastic composites.
The process of flattening bamboo begins by softening the raw material. Once the raw material has been softened and molded, the bamboo tubes are placed into a horizontal flattening apparatus. This machine features two rollers, the upper one is smooth and the lower roller has nails that penetrate the inner surface of the bamboo tube to release stress and prevent cracks. After the pretreatments, the tubes enter the flattening machine horizontally.
Using high-resolution AFM technology, we observed the micromorphology of flattened bamboo cross-sections. The original porous structure transformed into a continuous plane, with the walls being squeezed and stacked together. The walls of the conduits also developed tiny discontinuous cracks of diameter 1 mm. As a result, the original porous structure of bamboo cross sections underwent structural collapse, resulting in a decrease in toughness and rigidity.
The bending strength and elastic moduli of flattened bamboo boards are listed in Tab. 2. The process of flattening bamboo exerts significant stress on the bamboo fibers. The nails that penetrate the bamboo tubes' inner surfaces create a large contact area with the surface of the bamboo, resulting in the flattening of thin-walled cells. The resulting material has a higher bending strength than the untreated bamboo.
Bamboo is a natural product, and the physical properties of each sample differ significantly. Therefore, the process of flattening bamboo should be based on the individual material's properties. The GB/T 15780-1995 national standard is the best basis for determining its mechanical properties. Bamboo culms are composed of amorphous chemical phases, such as cellulose and glycine, which become rubbery at high temperatures. Once this happens, the bamboo is ready for flattening into a flattened bamboo board.
The temperature and type of treatment should be carefully chosen for each material. At lower temperatures, the L* values remained within the range of 48-64. However, when the temperature increased to 160degC, they lowered to 24-48. Moreover, the b* value was not affected by the treatment temperature and remained within a range of 12-24. It decreased to four-16 at 180degC. The results are promising for the development of a high-quality flattening machine.
The development of the bamboo flattening technology has been made possible by scientists who have incorporated physicochemical mechanisms. With the help of the bamboo flattening machine, manufacturers can increase the utilization rate of bamboo, reduce the amount of adhesive required, and create products with higher added value. The development of the flattening machine is a promising step towards wider adoption of bamboo products. So, what is the bamboo flattening machine?
